This novel guide is unique in that it will walk you through a novel (Peter Pan) AND it will teach you the method of how to complete novel studies like this with ANY novel of your choosing.

DIY Language Arts is a name I came up with a few years ago when we let go of the all-in-one language arts programs in our homeschool. The workbooks were feeling like a chore and causing our literature studies to be quite boring and hard to complete. About three years ago, I began researching and studying how to use novel passages to study language arts so that we could have the freedom to read any book that we choose at the pace that we wanted.

This Do-It-Yourself method has been so freeing. Book after book we continue learning all the skills of language arts but it is now fun and engaging. Honestly, it never feels like school. Most days it feels like we have our own little book club.

This guide is meant to be for the whole family, but I’d say it’s best up to age 11/12. Your older children can still participate in these novels, discussions, and passage studies, but I do feel like the writing practice would need to increase.

There are pacing options that you can choose when it comes to reading this particular novel, completing it in 3 weeks, 4 weeks, or 5 weeks.
This specific guide is completed with a 4 day/week schedule and the pacing of the book will allow you to finish it in 4 weeks .

In this guide I will share…

My name is Jaimie and I am a homeschool mom of four children. After leaving my position of classroom teacher, I found so much joy in reading books to my own kids and learning a variety of topics and skills from those books. I had no idea that through this strategy I, myself, would learn so much alongside my children! This passion for engaging, living literature has grown over several years. Now, we find so much joy studying subjects as a whole family using great books. I hope my resources can provide your family with that same joy while keeping the activities/lessons simple!
