The Story Behind The Homeschool Platform

Hello and welcome to The Homeschool Platform! I’m Marie, and together with my husband Collin, we’ve created this platform for homeschooling families to share their favorite self-made resources.

The idea behind The Homeschool Platform stemmed from my experience as a mother of soon-to-be 4-year-old twins. Although I had the desire to homeschool, it wasn’t until recently that I delved into what that would look like for my family. Having been homeschooled myself, I wanted to provide my children with a richer and more personalized experience.

In my quest for suitable curriculums, I interacted with parents in my children’s outdoor preschool class. Many recommended big-name curriculum companies, but I was on the lookout for something more tailored to homeschoolers. My search led me to the Busy Toddler’s Playing Preschool curriculum, which perfectly suited my 3-year-old toddlers at the time.

As I explored the world of homeschooling, I discovered inspiring content creators on Instagram like Treehouse Schoolhouse, Little House Learning Co., and Little World Wanderers. Excited to share these valuable resources, I realized many parents were unaware of these accounts, prompting me to consider creating a platform to connect homeschoolers with self-made resources.

I explored Teachers Pay Teachers but found that while many homeschool creators sold their resources there, they were often challenging to find. There was a disconnect between resources designed for classrooms and those suitable for homeschooling. With seven years of experience teaching fourth grade in a public school, I understood that lessons tailored for home would sometimes differ from those taught to a larger classroom. I know as a public school educator, my objectives for lessons usually aligned completely with what was expected on state assessments, and not on students’ interests or specific needs.

My vision for homeschooling involves hands-on experiences, adventures, and lessons seamlessly integrated into everyday life. I believe in engaging lessons built around what captivates our children, not predefined standards. With the homeschooling community growing rapidly, there’s a demand for a platform where homeschoolers can share their self-made resources. I love to create activities and lessons for my children, but I also know I won’t always have time to create them from scratch, or there is someone out there who has already done it better. Why reinvent the wheel?

The Homeschool Platform aims to be that go-to site for searching, comparing, and buying lessons and activities to meet the unique needs of homeschool families. How can you contribute?

  • 1. List Your Lessons: If you’ve created lessons you love, share them on our platform. They don’t need fancy designs—just a good description of what the lesson is about. Whether used alongside your main curriculum or for a specific unit, your insights can benefit others.
  • 2. Spread the Word: Tell your homeschooling friends, family, and co-op about our website. The more we grow, the more resources we can share.
  • 3. Shop: Explore the great ideas and resources fellow homeschooling families have made. Save time and discover valuable materials for your homeschooling journey.

Thank you for joining us on this exciting homeschooling adventure at The Homeschool Platform!
